The Mathematics Specialist Certificate Program (MSCP) is designed for teachers of upper elementary grades and designed to prepare you for future leadership opportunities in elementary mathematics.

Time Commitment

  • Two year program
  • Weekly courses during the academic year are held once a week from September to May. Classes will run from approximately 4:15 to 7:00 PM.

Cost

All MSCP courses are offered at reduced tuition rates.

Class Location

Various county locations and SDSU campus.

Course Content and Expectations

The coursework consists of 12 units in mathematics and teacher education (pedagogy). The program is focused on helping teachers gain a deep understanding of the mathematics taught in grades 4-6 and the skills needed to teach mathematics effectively.

Year One - 6 Semester Units

TE 605 (3 semester units) - Advanced Problems in Instruction
Math 281A (2 semester units) - Integrated Mathematics (part 1)
Math 383 (1 semester unit) - Quantitative Reasoning

Year Two - 6 Semester Units

TE 607 (3 semester units) - Innovations in Instruction: Examining Practice
Math 281B (2 semester units) - Integrated Mathematics (part 2)
Math 384 (1 semester unit) - Fostering Algebraic Thinking
